Welcome to Amelia’s Retro-Vogue & Relics
After almost 20 years on So. Lamar, Amelia’s Retro-Vogue & Relics relocated into the heart of the very cool Slackerville on S.1st St. After extensive remodeling, we re-opened our doors on December 1st, 2008. We loved our time in the bright turquoise blue 1930’s house with our fun backyard, our wonderful neighbors, and the other great boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants that surrounded that tree lined street.
In 2016 we got the sad news that Slackerville was sold. After 30 years of enjoying our brick and mortar spaces in Austin, it was time for another chapter in the Amelia’s story!
Luckily, we have two vintage trailers that are up to the task. Both Dezi, our 1949 Travelite trailer, and our 1959 Airstream, Ethyl, are now relocated to a spot that gives our future a decidedly calmer outlook. You can call our number to arrange for a private viewing, to sell us your own treasures, and to share in the events and shows we will be hosting (For a current update on those, please visit our Facebook page). Right now, we are in recovery from moving heavy boxes in 100+degree heat, but there has already been a serious bit of fun decorating in our lovely trailers. Once we get the AC’s working, there will be lots of unpacking, and photography for our online shop happening.
We have also been offered the option of moving into a room (built just for us!) inside the wonderful space on Airport Blvd that New Bohemia is now occupying. That transition will be fully realized very soon, hopefully by the end of Oct. 2016.
And finally, if you have found us here, you are seeing the start of our online presence. It is all a work in progress…the final days of enjoying S. 1st St. are almost behind us, and the fun of turning our trailers into a showroom, and a workroom are fun projects to look forward to!
As before, Amelia’s focuses on items and clothing dating from the mid-1800’s to the mid-1900’s. Well organized, well lit, and well edited, Amelia’s enjoys an ever expanding international reputation for the quality of it’s stock. Long used as a resource by designers with the film, theater and fashion industries, the shop has housewares, clothing and accessories that span America’s history. Whether you are looking for examples of the flamboyance of the 1890’s, the incredible details of the early 1900’s, the amazing fabrics of the 20’s, the simplicity of the dust bowl era, the glamor and strength of the 40’s, the exuberance of the 50’s or the energy and optimism of the early 60’s, Amelia’s will have something to intrigue and delight you.
